Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions about candidates, voting times, and how digital and physical voting work together.

General Election Information

Where can I find information about the candidates? +

You can view the profiles and short biographies of all 53 candidates on our official website at mcbelections.co.za.

I nominated a member, but I do not see them on the final candidate list. Why is this? +

The panel received a substantial number of nominations through both physical form submissions and digital platforms. The final list only includes nominees who satisfied the applicable eligibility requirements determined by the Panel and formally accepted their nominations.

Can I still nominate an individual? +

No, the nominations are closed.

Can I still register to be a member? +

Yes, provided it is done online. You can register via our membership registration form.

How many candidates can a member vote for? +

Each member may vote for up to 11 candidates, corresponding to the 11 available Board seats.

What time does voting open and close? +

Both digital and physical voting commenced simultaneously at 10:00 AM on Sunday, 23 August 2026. Physical (in-person) voting concluded at 4:00 PM that day. The online voting period has since been extended to 17:00 on Tuesday, 25 August 2026 — see the Announcements section above for details.

When will the results be announced? +

The final election results will be announced on the radio on Monday night.

Digital Voting

How do I access the digital voting platform? +

Registered members will receive an SMS (if a cell phone number was provided) or an email. This message will contain your unique ID and a randomly generated access key to log into the platform.

What if I didn't provide a phone number or email when registering? +

If we do not have your digital contact details, you will not receive an online link. You can either come to the venue to vote physically or request a digital link by providing your ID.

Physical Voting

Can I vote physically if I received a digital link? +

Yes, you can. When you arrive at the venue, our administrators will check your ID against the live system. Provided you have not yet cast your digital vote, your online access will be revoked, and you will be issued a physical ballot paper.

How is the election preventing double voting? +

We utilize a live, digitally hosted voter's roll. The moment a vote is cast online, the system updates. All physical voters are checked against this live spreadsheet before being allowed to vote.

Is the physical venue wheelchair accessible? +

Yes, wheelchair access is available via the venue's elevator. We have assigned two dedicated personnel to operate the elevator and assist voters.

Who is the Presiding Officer? +

Mr I Higgins is the Presiding Officer for this election.

Will the voting be subjected to audited oversight? +

Yes. The election will be conducted under audited oversight to ensure procedural integrity and fairness throughout the voting process.

Will observers be allowed in the venue? +

No, however, to ensure fairness, provisions have been made for an independent Presiding Officer and Auditors to be present on site for the duration of the election.

Is the online voting platform secure? +

Yes, the platform we are using is Election Runner, which secures all elections with SSL (https://) grade security.

  • Furthermore, the platform utilizes 256-bit encryption to keep your election and ballots strictly secure from unauthorized access.
Has this platform been tested and proven reliable? +
  • Absolutely, Election Runner is a trusted online voting software built specifically for organizations, universities, clubs, and unions.
  • It is recognized globally and maintains a perfect 5.0 overall rating on Capterra South Africa for its secure, user-friendly, and highly reliable infrastructure.
  • The system is optimized to perform flawlessly across desktops and mobile devices, ensuring accessibility for all users.
How does the system prevent voter fraud or double voting? +
  • To guarantee the integrity of the election, the platform strictly controls who is eligible to participate.
  • Every eligible voter receives a completely unique "Voter ID" alongside a randomly generated "Voter Key".
  • These specific credentials ensure that the system restricts each individual to casting only one ballot.
  • On election day, our physical registration desk will monitor the live system in real-time to ensure no physical ballots are issued to members who have already successfully cast their vote online.
Will my personal information and vote remain private? +
  • Yes, your privacy is fully protected.
  • The software allows election administrators to build, launch, and monitor the election process while utilizing fully encrypted ballots.
  • This ensures that while voter turnout and live results can be monitored transparently, individual voting choices remain strictly confidential.
